87 students participated in 4 rounds of Read Aloud contest this past Saturday. Below is a list of the "winners" and all participants. Please congratulate them for showing up and working hard. 22 adult volunteers served as judges. They included parents, Joe Vazquez & Kenneth Dare, JCYC staff, Americorp, Salesforce, Starbucks, United Way Bay Area, school volunteer Janice, and our North Beach neighbors. In addition, 24 former Rams came back to volunteer. 2 are preparing to graduate from SFSU this semester, 9 will graduate high school, and the rest are freshmans and sophomores. This really has become a family event. A big shout out to Brian and Beacon, Linda with JCYC, Mr. Kuang, Ms.Lim, Ms. Nelson, Ms. Sparks, and Ms. Personius for all the prep work and for spending much of their Saturday with the students. Thanks also to the various staff members who helped gather supplies & food, recruited and practiced with stduents, and promoted the event. All participants will receive a free book (funds generously donated by a neighbor). Unfortunately, the books didn't come in time for Saturday, but I'll be arranging for a book give-away with the ELA/ELD teachers in the next week or so.
