Election day is not really a holiday but some people celebrate the anniversary of a presidential term for a president. Election day takes place on the Monday after the first Tuesday of November. When a president is elected, they are given a term of 4 years. In the middle of their term is a midterm election and it takes place on the same time as a normal election. Election day does not happen every year.

Halloween is a holiday where it is believed the dead return to Earth. People usually dress up in costumes and go to people houses and trick or treat and get candy or a toy. The celtics would wear costumes and light big bonfires to ward off the evil spirits.
Veteran’s day is an official holiday to honor veterans in the U.S. Armed Forces. You thank the people who risk their lives to protect the States everyday and their families. Veteran’s day takes place on November 11th every year.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that is celebrated by most of the Europe and most of North America. It is when you eat turkey and other foods with family and friends. Thanksgiving is being being thankful for everything you have and do not take what you have for granted. Thanksgiving takes place on the fourth Thursday of November. It is day of peace and gratitude.
Formal Friday is a day where you have to dress up formally and debate with other students in your class. It happens every 2 weeks on a friday but it always cancels and moves to another day and schedule. You have to wear a tie and a polo/collar shirt. They have extras in the closet if you do not have any formal clothes. You usually debate about the book Touching Spirit Bear or other subjects you are on. There is a circle formed with 10 debaters.
-Roan The SSC (School Sited Counsel) are financial supporters who talk about school funding.
They also talk about how to conserve the schools money. 12 people are employed there and they are mainly adults but there are 3 students. The SSC is apart of the school and takes place after school from 4 to 5. They just recently talked about Title 1 funding. They happen on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 weeks a month, and is located in Little Theatre. Written by Roan. Edited by Zachary. Galileo is diverse and is accepting of all ethnicity, gender, and religion. Galileo consists of 1940 students. There are 482 students in Freshman, 486 in Sophomore, 453 in Junior, and 517 in Senior. This school can fix its graduation rate and test scores. Galileo has a lot of teachers, staff, custodians, and after school programs. They have a variety of AP and honor roll classes. Someone would want to go to this school because it is fun, easy, and educative.
Ellen Ochoa was born on May 10th, ‘58 in Los Angeles California but grew up in La Mesa, California. She graduated from Grossmont High School in El Cajon on ‘75. She played flute in the Stanford Opera. Her parents divorced when she was in high school so she lived with her mother. She’s married to Coe Miles and has two kids.
Ochoa spent 40 days, 19 hours, and 36 minutes in space. Ochoa was picked by NASA in early 1990 and became an astronaut in July 1991. She joined the 2002 mission and embarked the Shuttle Atlantis to go to the International Space Station (ISS). She was responsible for flight software and she was a flight engineer. She had a positive impact on space research and inspired kids to do better in education and schools. She was also the first Hispanic woman from any country to travel into space. The message she gives to kids today is to “Believe in yourself” and wants kids to do well in school and work hard. |
