Sonia Sotomayor, she was confirmed as the first Latina to be part of the Supreme Court. She was able to be part of the Supreme Court in 2009, with the help of Barack Obama, the 44th president. Her background is that she was born in America, in New York City; her parents are both Puerto Rican.
An important role that she took part of was if people can’t or can have Obamacare, allowing if people should get affordable healthcare. She also worked on acts such as Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the State of New York Mortgage Agency. These acts helped her become U.S. District Court Judge. It was positive because it helped impact those who couldn’t afford healthcare, or it was helpful to those who may have not had healthcare. She’s also inspiring coming from a bad neighborhood in New York and then coming to a high place in Court. She had also taught law at a University, but that was before her place in Court.
